The Traditions

Jyoti and Lan's cultural backgrounds added masala, or spice, to the wedding celebration (she's Indian; he's Vietnamese). The morning before the main event, Jyoti and Lan hosted a Vietnamese wedding ceremony at the bride's family home in Louisiana. Per tradition, Lan's family presented gifts to Jyoti's family, then the groom asked for formal permission of Jyoti's hand in marriage, and finally the pair drove to Lan's home to pay respect to his ancestors.
