We both grew up in the Midwest -- land of pie! Mary laughs. It was only appropriate that in lieu of a wedding cake, the couple treated guests to an assortment of pies baked from family recipes. Mary's family contributed the recipe for a coconut cream pie and a peanut butter pie, while Dean's side offered peach pie and pecan pie. A pair of kitschy bride and groom figurines adorned the pyramid of pies on the would-be cake table -- more than enough for every guest to grab a piece of the pie.
