Ngoc and Leon’s fairy-tale meeting was at a party on New Year’s Eve in New York City. They met through a mutual friend and were instantly attracted to one another. They danced and kissed each other when the ball dropped, and rang in the New Year with a long kiss. A real romancer, Leon asked Ngoc out on their first date the next month on Valentine’s Day weekend to the Poconos in Pennsylvania. Leon proposed to Ngoc 35 feet under water in the Caribbean when the two were scuba diving with friends in the Bahamas. Leon, pretending to point to fish, pointed at a plastic bag-covered sign connected to his wrist instead; the sign read, “Nom, will you marry me? Leon.” Ngoc was so surprised she began to hyperventilate having taken in too much oxygen from her tank and before she could answer his question, had to calm herself down. He pointed to the sign again, and Ngoc nodded a ‘yes’ and that was when Leon reached for the gorgeous oval-shaped ring connected to his wrist. He slipped the sparkler on her hand right there under water. “We came up to the boat and we were both so ecstatic!” says Ngoc.
