But age is the great equalizer, and the two soon became friendly in high school and kept in touch during college. They finally had their first real date during Amanda’s freshman year at the University of Missouri. “We went to dinner and then walked around campus and talked for hours,” says Amanda. Three years later, Matt, now 24 and a communications specialist, knew he needed a bit of help to pull off the perfect proposal, so he enlisted a very special friend: Amanda’s dog. “She came trotting into the living room where I was watching television and dropped the ring box into my lap,” says Amanda.
