Even though Mandy and Jeff met at the beginning of their freshman year at the University of Rhode Island and stayed friends all four years, Jeff didn’t ask out Mandy until the second semester of their senior year. “From that first magical date, we knew we would be together forever,” Mandy says. On her birthday in 2002, Jeff, now a 26-year-old staff engineer, took Mandy, now a 26-year-old events coordinator, for a romantic weekend in Newport, Rhode Island. The two went to Ocean Drive -- a spot well-known for its historic mansions and grand estates -- and Jeff surprised Mandy with a sunset proposal.
