An appreciation for good wine and home remodeling were the topics that helped build a connection between Liz and Akan who met at a friend's dinner party. They exchanged phone numbers and days later Akan invited Liz to have dinner with him. Five years into their relationship, Liz was living in Baltimore and Akan was in New York City. To keep their long distance relationship going, she would take Amtrak back and forth to New York on the weekends.
