Though Jenny and Matt don’t really remember their first date, there is a date they will never forget: January 5, 2005, the day that Matt was diagnosed with cancer. “It was a very crazy and heartbreaking time,” says Jenny. “I immediately quit my job and moved in with Matt and his family to be there with him through all of it.” Though it was an unbelievably scary time for the couple, they found themselves growing even closer. On the night they arrived, Matt took Jenny up to their rooftop patio for dinner and proposed with “the most amazing ring I’d ever seen,” says Jenny. Matt was in remission by August 2005, and a year later they married on the steps of the library of their alma mater.
