Mike proposed to Jen on his 28th birthday while the couple were having dinner at a restaurant in New York City's TriBeCa. Most of the restaurant was in on it, Jen remembers. Everything was going smoothly until Mike's birthday dessert arrived at the table without the candle in it that Jen had asked for. She hopped up to get a candle brought over, and when she returned to their booth Mike began telling her how much he loved her. At first Jen didn't catch on, but that changed when Mike got down on one knee. All the while I was saying, 'No, you're not, no you're not...' And he said, 'Stop saying that -- YES I AM! Jen recalls. She cried with joy while the entire restaurant applauded. The friend was actually trying to set Mike up with her cousin but fate would have it that another woman who caught his eye that night. Years later, Jen and Mike returned to the town of their first meeting, Chatham, for their laid-back beachside wedding.
