A Glamorous Pink Wedding at Dolce Hayes Mansion in San Jose, California

Edgar Martinez (42 and a wedding designer and florist) Macio Oliveira (37 and a banquet manager) said “I do” at the opulent Dolce Hayes Mansion in San Jose, California, where their love story began two years earlier. “We chose it because it was where everything started,” Macio says. “First kiss, first dance, first conversation.” Edgar and Macio’s ceremony was held on the mansion’s front lawn, which was decorated with cherry blossoms lining the aisle, an elaborate gate that Edgar designed and covered in pink roses, and a beautiful flower arch. Macio’s mom walked him down the aisle, and Edgar’s daughter escorted him. Macio’s best friend, Maria, officiated the ceremony, and the couple wrote their own vows. Macio’s obsession with Veuve Clicquot champagne was the theme for their cocktail hour, which followed the ceremony. A “bubble lounge” was decorated in white, yellow and orange shades, and a life-size crystal elephant. Dinner and dancing was held in the mansion’s banquet hall, and decorated in fuchsia and white. “I love cherry blossoms, and I love pink,” Macio says. “When we decided to get married, I told Edgar, ‘Babe, I want pink, pink and pink,’ and he said, ‘I want white carpet, white draping and a white dance floor.’ My final words: Barbie meets 'Frozen' equals fabulous!” As the couple were introduced at the reception, they surprised guests with a live mariachi band, which sang their first-dance song (“Somos Novios” by Luis Miguel), the mother-and-son dance and Edgar’s daughter-father dance. “It was magical,” Macio says of the tribute to Edgar’s Mexican roots. Between dinner courses, Edgar and Macio surprised guests with Samba dancers, a nod to Macio’s Brazilian background. “It was insanely fun,” Macio says. “The mood for the night was set.” Other fun included a friend dressing in drag to look (and sing) like Amy Winehouse, a photo booth, slow-motion video booth, late-night taco bar and a fabulous dessert bar with chocolates, custom-made bonbons and an array of Brazilian sweets. — Marissa Hermanson
