Vibrant, Rainbow Wedding at Camp in Maine
Rita-Louise Wakehnhi:iostha Montour (28 and a community partnership specialist) and Nathan Friendly’s (28 and an electrical engineer) wedding planning mantra: More is more. Rita’s vision of a “wild, ungroomed rainbow” came to life with vibrant bursts of color, disco balls and fireworks. “Our color palette was all the colors,” Nathan says. The pair also kept their maximalist motto in mind when planning a ceremony full of tributes to Rita’s Iroquois heritage, including Nathan walking down the aisle to her. “My tribe is matriarchal, so when a man joins with a woman, he enters her clan, and I liked that symbolism,” Rita says.
Bright splashes of roses, hanging greenery and star-like twinkling lights brought the outdoors in for dinner. The most important element of the party, though, was more glam than rustic. “I wanted that sparkly, holographic disco ball,” Rita says. The newlyweds cut into a cake made of two distinct layers: chocolate with brown sugar buttercream and brown sugar with strawberry buttercream. “I don’t think I will ever eat a cake that good again,” Rita says.
Guests grabbed freshly made eats, including grilled shrimp and a cheese skillet, for dinner. Everyone found their seats by checking out an acrylic sheet awash with colorful paint strokes and calligraphy. Rita’s policy for the rustic wood farm tables was simple: “I wanted to focus on the rainbow,” she says. “We chose colorful, kooky goblets and let vibrant florals sing with a supporting cast of tea lights.”
