A Unique, Colorful Wedding at Danbury Airport in Connecticut

Nature lovers Melissa Greenfield (27 and an environmental scientist) and Kyle Gauck (28 and works in quality assurance) brought the outdoors in for their November wedding day. The couple welcomed guests to The Hangar at Danbury Airport for their reception, followed by a ceremony under the cover of a tent in Melissa’s mom’s wooded backyard. The ceremony site was filled with rustic, organic elements, including an arch draped in greenery and warm fall colors like burnt orange and mustard yellow. From there, guests chowed down on grilled cheese and tomato soup as well as a dessert spread of chocolate chip cookies and s’mores bites. “We wanted our wedding to feel like a big party,” Melissa says. Melissa’s favorite moment of all came toward the end of the night. “My bridesmaids gave out of a bunch of colorful wigs,” she says. “It really gave the party one last jolt.”
Melissa and Kyle skipped flowers in favor of greenery, including succulents and potted plants. Instead of just cutting cake, the couple turned the dessert into a game of “cake in the face.” Melissa and Kyle asked guests to add coins to jars with their names on them. In the end, Kyle earned the least amount of money—and ended up caked in the face. The pair honored Melissa’s late father by collecting 130 stones, his favorite activity, one for each guest’s place.
The newlyweds headed off in a 1992 Jeep Wrangler that Kyle’s late stepfather handed down to him after they restored it together.
