The Reception
The father of the bride gave a very unique toast that had nearly all of the guests in tears. A few months before the wedding, he had the bride and groom write letters to each other about why they loved one another, and seal them in envelopes. He arrived at the reception with the sealed letters, a bottle of port wine, two glasses, and an oak box that he had made. After explaining everything, he then nailed the box shut. “He told us to open it on our 25th wedding anniversary, but if there was ever a time before then that we were not getting along for some reason we should open the box, drink the wine, and go into separate rooms and read the letters. This will help us to remember why we fell in love in the first place,” Sarah recalls. The box now sits—unopened—on the couple’s mantle.
