I had no idea that he was using his other hand to get a ring from his pocket.” Once Joe, a 29-year-old chemical engineer, got down on one knee, Summer realized what was happening and whispered, “Are you for real?” The two had met on their first day at college, and after almost seven years, were finally engaged. “People ask if I was impatient,” she says. “But neither of us ever had a doubt that we’d be married. Our commitment began years before our wedding.”
