Robert proposed while the two were celebrating Mother's Day in Cocoa, Florida, with Shannon's family. Robert received their permission in the morning and surprised Shannon after a horseback ride. "Bobby grabbed her hand and said "Shannon McQuaaagggg would you do me the great honor and make me the happiest man on earth by marrying me".
