After the groom-to-be's romantic proposal, Maryam and John planned a meaningful ceremony that led to a rousing reception. His parents had been members of the church for a decade, and John loved the peaceful beauty of the setting, with its brook, pine trees, and rolling hills for which the church is named. His proposal matched the romantic atmosphere: On one knee, John, an English teacher, read a poem that he had written and presented Maryam with an engagement ring.
