Selected to travel to Japan by the National Science Foundation for research, Kimberly and Jason (both med and grad students) first met at a meet-and-greet dinner just before their trip, and they were an item soon afterward. The Bride Kimberly Lu, 32, surgeon The Groom Jason Mitchell, 34, software engineer The Date July 16 After Jason surprised Kimberly with a proposal, the couple began planning a wedding celebration that mixed Chinese, Japanese, and Western tradition. (Kimberly’s father is from Taiwan and her mother is from Japan; Jason’s family is from Ohio.) What ensued was a beautiful Japanese- and Chinese-inspired wedding at a historic mansion set on 10 acres of gardens just off the shores of American Lake in Washington.
