Kathryn Viall and her boyfriend of 10 months, Robb Stottlemyer (the two had met through a mutual friend), were making jack-o-lanterns for Halloween, only a few days away. As Kate fished through the goop inside a pumpkin, her hands found something unusual and not at all pumpkin-like. Robb had secretly cut open the bottom of the pumpkin before Kate started carving and snuck in a ring. I was covered in pumpkin guts, holding the ring, Kate says. It was the best moment of my life. The two planned to be wed nine months later.
