Foodies Johanna and Chris first planning decision was based on food. “When choosing our venue, the most important thing for us was being able to choose our own caterer,” Johanna says. “We needed to use one of our favorite restaurants, Lula Cafe.” From there, the couple kept things similarly nontraditional, opting out of a wedding party and cutting into several small vegan cakes in different flavors after dinner. At the ceremony, the pair paid homage to Chris’s Indian heritage, adding a fun touch to the circular arch: bright, dangling marigolds.

Johanna and Chris chose their favorite restaurant for dinner because “they do vegan really, really well.” Case in point: Everyone chowed down on family-style dishes, including cavatelli with roasted eggplant and broccoli pesto and roasted mushrooms. Bright yellow candles in brass holders, modern black plates and cheery ranunculus-topped tables, located conveniently near the dance floor. “We wanted everyone to feel like they were part of the action at all times,” Johanna says.
