An Elegant Wedding at Historic Germania Place in Chicago, Illinois

Bethany (29 and a resident physician) and Nicholas (29 and a pharmacist) got to know each other in college and grew close through a shared physics lab junior year, but they didn’t start dating until the beginning of their senior year. They then spent four years apart as she went to off to med school (at SIU) and he went to pharmacy school (at UIC), where they lived over five hours apart from one another. When she graduated, Bethany moved to Chicago to be with Nick, and eventually they moved in together. Nick proposed on their seven-year-anniversary after a year of shopping with her closest friends to find the right ring. Bethany was working night shifts, and when she came home at 9am, Nick was standing in their kitchen in a suit with a timeline of memorabilia from their relationship (cards, gifts, pictures, etc.) strewn over the island counter. Bethany recounts, “We did a kind of ‘walk down memory lane,’ and when we came to the last piece of memorabilia, Nick said something to the effect of, ‘We’ve come as far as we can as boyfriend and girlfriend.’” They were married in the heard of Chicago’s Old Town at Germania Place, where they held a “classy and timeless” ceremony with a purple and black color palette.
