An Elegant Southern-Style Backyard Wedding at a Private Home in Charleston, South Carolina

Christen Richbourg (30 and a home service manager) and Jason Hightower (29 and a finance director) both grew up in Charleston, SC and went to the same college, but it wasn't until years later that they met. Jason came into the department store Christen was working in at the time and immediately caught her eye. "I told my coworker, who happened to be a mutual friend that, I thought he was very handsome and our friend set us up," says Christen. After just one date the two were inseparable and a year and a half later, Jason whisked Christen away for the weekend and surprised her with a proposal. The couple planned an elegant backyard wedding at Christen's grandfather's home in Charleston, SC. After a traditional ceremony at Bethel United Methodist Church, the couple and their guests headed over to the stunning waterfront property for a night of dinner and dancing under the stars. The couple chose an ivory, gold and silver color palette for the affair that felt both classic and glam. Chandeliers and bistro lighting were strung from the trees dotting the backyard giving the space a romantic, ambient glow, while arrangements of bright white and ivory blooms added a traditional, sophisticated note to the decor. Vignettes incorporating modern lounge furniture was scattered across the property, allowing guests to kick back and enjoy the beautiful views of the water.
