An Elegant, Classic Wedding at Our Mother of Good Counsel in Los Angeles, California

As young children, Melanie Mendoza (25 and an office manager) and John Paul Ramirez (28 and a teacher) grew up attending Our Mother of Good Counsel together in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. So when it came time to plan their classic wedding, they couldn't think of a better place to hold the occasion than the place that brought them together. Using a color scheme of blush and gold, Melanie and John Paul created a romantic setting for the elegant nuptials, decorating everything from the polka-dot invitations to the pink and white flower centerpieces. The day began inside the church, where Elizabeth Burgi Photography captured Melanie walking down the aisle lined with tulle pieces tied to the pews. At the front near the altar, lush arrangements of white flowers and fern leaves surrounded the space. Melanie and John Paul incorporated Filipino traditions, combined with their strong faith through veil, cord and candle ceremonies, to symbolize their unity and love through God. Fast-forward to the outdoor reception surrounded by gardens, where guests located their seats at dining tables decorated with photos of Melanie and John Paul traveling around the world. Since dancing held great importance to their Filipino and Latino guests, they hired a great DJ to keep the party going all night. And everybody enjoyed the three-tier wedding cake decorated with succulents and filled with delicious flavors of mango and purple yam (a Filipino delight). Although we adored many details that made up this classic wedding, we loved Melanie's strapless white Maggie Sottero dress with a gorgeous two-layer veil—an elegant look for an elegant occasion.
