Amy & John in Thompson, CT

A raging storm swept through Connecticut on the first Friday of June, wiping out the electricity in Thompson, a town in the northeast corner of the state. That night, when Amy Toffolon and John Dolan were en route to their wedding rehearsal at Sacred Heart Church, the scene was surreal: huge trees had fallen on houses and on cars parked along the way. Fortunately, they were getting married on Saturday -- overnight, the summer storm would morph into bright skies and sun. THE BRIDE Amy Toffolon, 27, public relations coordinator THE GROOM John Dolan, 30, quality assurance analyst THE DATE June 3 Amy and John are no strangers to the might of storms. John is a native of Ireland, and in 1998 he and Amy spent the holidays with his family. For a week it was nothing but ice storms, and as a result electricity and hot water were out of the question. On New Year's Eve, the storms stopped and John seized the moment to take Amy to Newgrange (a prehistoric passage tomb) in County Meath. After the tour, he proposed. When we came out of the tomb, everyone congratulated us, says Amy. We celebrated that night with John's family and friends -- after a long hot shower!
