A Winter Destination Wedding at Whiteface Club & Resort in Lake Placid, New York
“Tom and I are the rare people who actually like snow—a lot,” Cait Rohan (30 and a digital editor) says of her and Tom Kelly (30 and a banker). “Considering our love for cold, snowy weather, plus Tom's affinity for hockey, having a winter destination wedding in Lake Placid, New York, was a no-brainer.” The couple’s ceremony and reception had a rustic, woodsy vibe with lots of rough wood details, deep pine-green tones and crimson reds—holiday decorations also played into Cait and Tom’s day, as well as references to things they love, like hockey, moose and New York sports teams. “We really tried to make every aspect of our wedding as personal as possible!” Cait says. “We love going to weddings that give us a real sense the couple getting married.”
After a cozy indoor ceremony at St. Agnes Catholic Church, the newlyweds held a reception at the Whiteface Club & Resort, where their 125 guests took part in winter fun—like sleigh rides—and sipped on spiked hot cocoa. Later on, friends and family made their own s’mores around a bonfire. “Don’t be afraid to take photos outdoors,” Cait advises other winter brides. “Even if it isn’t snowing, there’s something unique and magical about winter, and you should capture that! Being freezing for a few minutes could mean gorgeous photos that last a lifetime. It’s very worth it!” —Carolyn Meers
