A Whimsical Fall Wedding at Asbury Park Grove in Charlotte, North Carolina

Kara Hogan (22 and a cake decorator) and Ben Ben Sochko (23 and an event manager) had been going to school together since middle school but didn't get to know each other until college. With the help of mutual friends, the pair quickly bonded over music and Ben proposed after three years of dating. "We went out to a nice dinner and when we came home, he proposed by having my mom and brother tie the ring around our dog's neck," says Kara. "She brought it to me and it was an incredibly intimate moment between us." The couple used their mutual love of music to fuel their whimsical-meets-vintage fall affair at Asbury Park Grove in Charlotte, North Carolina. "The venue is tucked away on this little road that most people would never notice, and that was part of its appeal," says Kara. "It was so close to the city but still had an element of privacy that we wanted for our wedding." Hoping to play up their fall wedding date, the couple wanted a seasonal color palette without using autumnal reds and oranges. Instead, Kara and Ben worked with a lavender, plum and peach color palette to add a bohemian touch to their DIY indoor reception. Musical touches were used throughout the wedding ranging from the turntable invitations and DIY vintage 45's decor to actually being involved in preparing the music for the ceremony and reception. "Music is at the heart of our relationship—our love for music allowed us to make this connection and grow to love each other," says Kara.
