A Travel Themed Wedding at Saengerrunde Hall in Austin, Texas

Jenny Blackbern (29 and a teacher) met Rob Sexton (36 and an IT consultant) at a bar in Austin; Rob was living in San Francisco at the time, and was with a group waiting for a wedding party to arrive. He and Jenny ended up talking and hitting it off, but Rob was scheduled to fly back to San Francisco that Sunday. Jenny figured they would never meet again until Rob called the next day to say he had rescheduled his flight to Monday and asked Jenny on a date for that Sunday. Fourteen months later, the couple decided to cash all in their frequent flyer miles and take eight months to travel the world together. Rob proposed inside of a volcano in Quilotoa, Equador. Since these two are such travel fanatics, it made perfect sense that they would host a destination, travel-themed wedding in Austin, Texas where they first started their lifelong journey together. The couple held their ceremony in the chapel at St. Edward's University, Jenny's alma mater, surrounded by live oak trees, antique buildings and a view of the Austin skyline. "Our wedding style was practical, earth friendly and very 'us,'" says Jenny. Her favorite color is blue, so the couple thought a soft yellow would compliment that nicely. The pre-cocktail hour consisted of bowling, beer at bratwurst at Saengerrunde Hall where the reception later took place. "We wanted our reception to be fun for our guests and represent a huge part of us and our love for travel and adventure," says Jenny. Instead of assigned tables, they had gates and destinations and escort cards displayed on a map of the world. "We are hard working and like to be creative," says the bride, "so Rob and I made most of the decor ourselves." Instead of giving traditional favors, the couple made a donation to a non-profit organization they support called GroundworkOpportunities (GO).
