A Travel-Inspired Wedding at Coronado Community Center in Coronado, California
Since much of their relationship was spent long-distance, it was no surprise that Kate Gillingham (27 and in real estate) and Brett Milke (29 and a special education teacher) had a travel-inspired theme for their wedding. The day was decorated in a palette of blues, greens and purples that reflected the shades of sea glass—from the ceremony programs that read "Brett Loves Kate" to the knee-length bridesmaid dresses that varied in style. Guests got a feel for the travel theme when they received their invitations, which included a map with a legend and symbols representing various wedding activities. Kate and her bridesmaids held overflowing bouquets of soft-colored wildflowers, while the men wore blush rose boutonnieres accented with dusty miller and thistle. After the traditional ceremony at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Coronado, California, guests biked to the nearby reception at Coronado Community Center in Coronado, California. Vintage-inspired postcards depicted photos of Kate and Brett during their travels, which marked dining tables for guests to find their seats. The no-bake cookie wedding favors in glass milk jars came from a family recipe from Brett's grandmother, adding a personal gift for loved ones to take home. Our favorite part had to be the dessert selections captured by Shewanders Photography, which included not only a classic white wedding cake with a wooden personalized topper, but also California-shaped cookies that embodied the place where they fell in love.
