A Quirky Wedding at Housing Works Bookstore in New York City
Jason Sheridan, 37, a fencing coach, married his bride Abbie Sheridan, 28, a public relations and marketing director, in quirky wedding at a Manhattan bookstore. Jason surprised Abbie on their anniversary with a flash mob proposal a few blocks from their New York City apartment. The couple chose Housing Works Bookstore in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood as the location for both their ceremony and reception. "We both love reading and books, and we thought it would be the perfect venue and stood for something that we both have a common love for," Abbie says. To keep the day simple, the bride and groom decided against a wedding party. The bookstore setting served as inspiration for much of the decor, and the groom used his artistic skills to draw the save the date cards and invitations. "Our save the date was a postcard, but our wedding invite was really elaborate," says the bride. "He designed and drew a little mini book which told the our love story. The RSVP cards were designed as library cards." Throughout the night, Abbie and Jason planned surprises for one another, with the groom planning a macaroni and cheese bar and cotton candy for dessert and the bride planning a waffle food truck. "It was fun for us to find out what the other had planned, and it was fun for the guests as well!" Abbie says.
