A Modern Waterfront Wedding at the Whalehead Club in Corolla, North Carolina

Technically Sandra Doherty, 41, an anthropologist, and Tim Healthy, 48, an army officer met online, but their relationship has been far from two people isolated and chatting on a computer. These two have traveled the world from New York City to Namibia to Afghanistan and beyond, but somehow found their way to each other. Sandra relocated to the Tidewater, Virginia area after spending 18 months in Afghanistan working as an anthropologist and several friends encouraged her to try the "online dating thing." Similarly, fatherhood and a career as a military officer afforded Tim limited free time, so at the prompting of his brother-in-law, Tim too decided to give online dating a chance. The two were matched up and hit it off after finding out that they had a lot more in common than their online profiles would highlight. After six months of dating, Sandra surprised Tim with a weekend getaway to her second home, New York City. Little did she know that Tim had a surprise in store for her as well. After dinner at “One if by Land, Two if by Sea,” Tim and Sandra enjoyed a nightcap on the rooftop of their hotel in Nolita indulging in the views of the Manhattan skyline and it was here that Tim popped the question.The couple planned an intimate summer celebration at the Whalehead Club at Currituck Heritage Park in Corolla, NC. As a long-term seasonal resident of the Outer Banks, the area holds a special place for Tim and as couple, it was one of the first vacations they took together. They couple held a tented reception along the waterfront, choosing a color palette of bright watermelon and peach hues in honor of the summer season. White orchids, Sandra’s favorite flower, was the bloom of choice for the affair, finding it’s way into the boutonnieres and bouquets. As a special touch that reflected their love of travel, Sandra and Tim provided the event designer with silk fabric that they picked up in India to hang from the ceiling of the tent to create a light airy effect. Other personal touches included a surprise helicopter landing and a pilot log book for all of their guests to sign, both a reflection of Tim’s love of aviation.
