Stefan was visiting Los Angeles from London when the friend he was staying with introduced him to Mary. Sparks flew instantly and the two dated long-distance for two years until Mary moved to London to get a master’s degree at Sotheby’s Institute. They lived together across the pond for a year and a half before moving to Los Angeles. The Bride Mary Spielberger, 29, co-owner of an art collection management and consulting company The Groom Stefan Skarbek, 33, a musician The Date October 31 Stefan and Mary had been dating for a total of five and a half years when Stefan surprised Mary with a trip to Palm Springs. On the first night of the vacation, over a plate of lobster mac ’n’ cheese, he asked her to marry him.

Mary designed Stefan’s boutonniere and had it made at Monaco Couture along with her dress. The fiery gloriosa lily in Stefan’s boutonniere popped against his gray suit.
Mary loves all things striped, so black-and-white-striped fabric made the perfect non-cheesy Halloween décor. Of course, they mixed in a few pumpkins too.
In addition to the pumpkins placed along the table runners, the florist set bright-pink and yellow blooms in various colored glasses and containers.
Hot pink added color to the black-and-white theme. The girls’ bouquets included peonies, dahlias, and roses, and the striped ribbon tied around it brought the whole look together.
Mary and her best friend drove to a local pumpkin patch and bought as many pumpkins as they could fit in the car. They placed a tiny one at each place setting and tied manila tags to them. Each tag was typewriter-printed with guests’ names, just like the escort cards, with the idea being that the tags would fit inside the envelopes.

The long dining tables were adorned with homemade black-and-white table runners. Marvimon’s brick walls are definitely untraditional and fit the wedding’s look.
The couple used a friend’s old typewriter to print guests’ names on plain, mini manila envelopes, and then stuck them on a corkboard covered with black-and-white-striped fabric.
Mary describes her wedding day look as “punk rock Audrey Hepburn.” She designed the dress herself and had it custom-made by Monaco Couture. It was fairly simple (and tea-length in the front) but was fun and edgy in the back.
