A Glamorous Black-Tie Wedding at the InterContinental Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts
Amy Sheldon (29 and a physician assistant) and Craig Forleiter’s (29 and a physician) wedding was all about modern glamour. For the elegant affair, the couple gathered their families and friends in Boston, Massachusetts, Amy’s home turf and the site of the upscale InterContinental Hotel. Located near the seaport, the modern hotel has impressive floor-to-ceiling windows that give way to stunning views of Boston Harbor. With many of their family members and friends coming from out of town, Amy and Craig made gift boxes filled with Boston-themed snacks to greet them when they checked in to their hotels. “Guests were encouraged to check out the city during the day on Saturday,” Amy says. “Many of our out-of-towners ended up spending the entire extended weekend, and hopefully it softened their opinions of Boston just a little.” Wanting the wedding to have a classy, formal feel, Annie and Craig relied on a black, white, pink and gold color palette and opulent arrangements of full blooms, like the ceremony’s showstopping all-white chuppah and the towering romantic centerpieces at the reception, to dress up the InterContinental’s modern ballrooms. Food factored into Amy and Craig’s decision to book the waterfront hotel, in particular its iconic dessert buffet. “Everyone raved about it for months,” Amy says. While cocktail hour and dinner were chock-full of delectable dishes like freshly made sushi, mini comfort foods, sea bass and beef tenderloin, dessert stole the show. “After dinner the curtains were drawn to reveal a dessert buffet with seemingly limitless options,” Amy says. Guests sampled the selection of sweet treats, including fried Oreos and ice cream cones, before dancing the night away to the sounds of a live band. A tip for the taking from Amy: "Communication is key. We found wedding planning to be enjoyable and never overly stressful, because the communication doors were always open. Treat each other with respect and understanding during the wedding planning and it will set the stage for happiness ever after."
