A Classic Vintage-Inspired Wedding at Tribeca Rooftop in New York, New York
Brielle Murray (29 and owner/operator of Mister Dixon) and William McGraw (29 and manager at Baby’s All Right) planned an elegant big-city affair at the Tribeca Rooftop for their early-fall wedding in New York, New York. “We thought that if most people were going to travel to New York City, they deserved to see the view at sunset,” Brielle says. Tribeca Rooftop provided a striking backdrop, offering guests panoramic views of downtown Manhattan, the Hudson River, the Empire State Building, SoHo and Tribeca as the sun began to set. In the early days of planning, Brielle and William came across a vintage postcard of the Church of the Transfiguration, also known as the Little Church Around the Corner, which quickly became the inspiration for everything from the custom-designed invitations to the palette and ceremony site. The couple gathered their friends and families at the Church of the Transfiguration for a traditional ceremony, which concluded with a bagpipe performance—a nod to the couple’s Irish heritage. The newlyweds then ushered their guests to Tribeca Rooftop for the reception. The couple carried over the vintage theme with postcards highlighting the table names and classic bouquets of romantic pink, ivory and red blooms offset by cascading eucalyptus. “The one thing we wanted most was a surprise brass band on the dance floor for a handful of songs,” Brielle says. “Our friend’s brass band, the PitchBlak Brass Band, came out to play 'You Can Call Me Al' by Paul Simon, 'I Like the Way You Move' by Outkast, 'Valerie' by Amy Winehouse, 'Africa' by Toto and 'Tusk' by Fleetwood Mac.” Another close friend played an acoustic set for the couple, and the evening finished on a high note with DJ Orion. “This reflected us best,” Brielle says. “It was a bit like our dream concert.” In addition to the live tunes, the couple provided endless entertainment for guests with a stacked photo booth, complete with papier-mache masks that Brielle made herself. A tip from Brielle: “Just make decisions. Don’t waste too much time choosing between color schemes on Pinterest. If you’re getting too hung up on something, just pick one and move on.” —Libby MacCarthy
