“One overarching theme that was very important to us was marriage equality,” Mari says. “At the time, our marriage was not legally recognized in Colorado (that didn't change until this year!) and many of our straight friend's and family had no idea what was at stake beyond the mere title of marriage. For our ceremony we made a wish tree - but on the back of each wish tag we listed a right or protection denied to same sex couples.”
