A Modern Same-Sex Wedding at 910 Arts in Denver, Colorado

Grace Lee (35 and a physical therapist) and Mari Titcombe (31 and a research scientist) met at a party. Since Grace had been proofreading many versions of Mari’s resumes, Mari wrote a wife resume for Grace, which was a fake resume of what she could bring to Grace’s future. However, Grace initially set it aside for later. After some nudging, Grace opened the resume and said yes. Same-sex marriage was not legally recognized in Colorado when Grace and Mari exchanged vows. So, one of the themes of their modern wedding was marriage equality. “Many of our straight friend's and family had no idea what was at stake beyond the mere title of marriage,” Mari says. “For our ceremony we made a wish tree - but on the back of each wish tag we listed a right or protection denied to same sex couples.” The combined modern, urban and rustic, outdoorsy details into their wedding. They exchanged vows at an outdoor ceremony at City Park overlooking the Denver skyline and Rocky Mountains. Afterwards, they headed to Gallery 910 Arts for a quirky, modern reception. They chose purple and orange accents, untamed and eccentric flowers and fun DIY decorations for their day.
