A Bright, Rustic Summer Wedding at Alerin Barn in St. Johnsbury, Vermont
Hosting their wedding in the rolling hills of Vermont was a given for Pauline Yu (27 and a senior strategy consultant) and John Charles (29 and a vice president strategy manager). Having spent many long weekends together in the idyllic Green Mountain State, the pair had grown to love the area’s natural beauty and warm, inviting vibe. From the moment they stepped foot on the Alerin Barn property in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, they knew they’d found the perfect place to celebrate with family and friends. “It's simply stunning,” Pauline says of the venue’s picturesque setting, rustic charm and grand timber-frame barn. The day was filled with bright colors and playful touches that reflected the summer season and the couple’s fun-loving personalities. Vibrant shades of blue, red and yellow painted the lush green scenery, translating into the bridesmaid dresses and the bouquets and centerpieces featuring seasonal blooms. A mountaintop ceremony preceded the reception, where woodland charm reigned supreme. Guests sat on log benches, cheerful sunflowers lined the aisles, and a rustic wooden arch decorated with an array of colorful wildflowers framed the couple as they exchanged vows. The couple kept the ceremony short and sweet and wrote their own vows to give the occasion a touch of personal flair. The flowers from the ceremony were repurposed for reception tables, filling the barn with pops of vibrant color and energy. Pauline’s maid of honor handcrafted the table numbers, each boasting small felt birds holding hand-stitched “P hearts J” signs, and Pauline and John customized their menu to reflect their adventurous taste buds and passion for food. To give guests a taste of local flavor, the pair sent their friends and families home with pint-size bottles of maple syrup made at a nearby farm. A tip from Pauline: “One of the best parts of our wedding venue was the wedding coordinator, Christy. She provided so many suggestions for vendors, which was a great asset to have, especially when planning a wedding four hours away from home.”
