Bilingual invitations and traditional Japanese instruments blended seamlessly with American traditions in Yuki and Alex's wedding. The Bride Yuki Ishioka, 34, senior product manager The Groom Alex Lam, 31, corporate development manager The Date September 4 Yuki and Alex both felt they were missing something from their lives -- and each knew they'd found it the day they met. Yuki was set up on a blind date, with Alex probably not making the best first impression by being 10 minutes late, Yuki says. He made up for it (Yuki, originally from Japan, was impressed with Alex's bilingual skills), and their afternoon coffee date extended into the evening. When we parted ways, Yuki says, we knew that this was something special. Three months later, the couple had plans for dinner and a show at the theater, in-between which they decided to take in the view from Coit Tower. At the base of the tower, Alex proposed with a gorgeous diamond ring. The first words out of my mouth were, Is this real?! Yuki says. Thankfully, both the ring and the proposal were real, and the two wed nine months later in a room with a view, appropriately enough, of the Coit Tower.

I wanted a simple yet classic dress, Yuki says. She chose a lace gown with a blush belt that matched her bouquet.
Yuki carried a bouquet of pale pink roses tied with a flowing turquoise ribbon.
For lunch, guests had the choice of pan-seared chicken breast or grilled sansho pepper-crusted New York steak.
After a cocktail hour in the Library room, a lunch reception and dancing followed in the Mandarin's Embassy room.
To match the wedding's turquoise and white color scheme, the three-tier square confection was topped off with orchids and a turquoise ribbon that cascaded down the side of the cake.
The Music
Yuki and Alex were married on the 40th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, with a stunning view of the Transamerica Building and Coit Tower (where Alex proposed).
