"The Wizard of Oz" Inspired This Wedding at the Michigan League Ballroom in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Brian and Michael are longtime fans of The Wizard of Oz. The couple turned their wedding day into a celebration of all things Oz, from the 1939 film to the Broadway musical Wicked—happily ever after included. Brian surprised Michael with a pair of sequined Converse to wear down the aisle. "It was so emotional and one of my favorite parts of the day," Brian says.
A yellow brick road aisle runner turned the Michigan League Ballroom into Oz while fun signage paid tribute to Dorothy's adventures in the Emerald City. Brian and Michael not only dressed their wedding day according to the colors of the rainbow, but also added a nod of the film's characters on their programs—including a rainbow-colored twist. "The story and the message resonated with me on so many levels," Brian says.

After dancing to Katharine McPhee's cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," (of course!), the couple played The Newlywed Game. Postreceptiion, the couple swapped their suits for matching emerald-green "Mr. & Mr." shirts. Guests took home coloring pages, which Brian created. "I was in major DIY mode," he says. "I started crafting six months before." Brian and Michael completed their breakfast buffet -- including eggs Benedict and a waffle station -- with doughnuts.
