Wildflowers Filled This Autumn Farm Wedding in Urbana, Illinois

Designers Abigail Frank (29) and Timothy Voelker (32) first hit it off thanks to a few shared passions: classic cars, ’90s Nickelodeon shows and woodworking. Years later, they took on a new passion project, marrying at Abigail’s family’s farm, which the Franks turned into a venue after it was saved from demolition due to its status as a habitat for endangered squirrels. “It was insane to be literally building the venue we were getting married in,” Abigail says. “We hand-burned the cedar ourselves.” The couple took on planning and decorating alongside construction, from Tim designing the modern, minimal invitations to Abigail mowing a strip in the prairie so they’d have a clear spot for their first look.
“We chose ‘Cheek to Cheek’ by Fred Astaire because it was the first song we danced to when we were dating back in Brooklyn,” Tim says.
Abigail hand-picked a tractor tire rim during the hall’s construction, covered it in bundles of dried plants and hung it as a chandelier at the reception. “I was up in a construction lift, fully dressed for our rehearsal, wrangling plants,” Abigail says. The couple filled the dessert table with cupcakes, caneles and cakes, all with autumn-inspired, citrus flavors. “We followed autumn’s abundance for inspiration,” Abigail says. Pumpkins and vintage china completed the tabletops.
