A Mountain Wedding With Retro 70s Touches at Mammoth Rock Brasserie in Mammoth Lakes, California
Katharine and Daniel met on a camping trip in the Mojave Desert and got engaged on a trip to Mammoth Lakes. “The Eastern Sierras are a very special place to us,” Katharine says. “We love the trees, mountains and crisp air.” The outdoorsy pair invited friends and family to share in the scenery at their wedding. Together, Katharine and Daniel built wood signs and a triangular altar, which they exchanged vows beneath while surrounded by mountains. A glam ’70s-style reception followed at a nearby restaurant.
Katharine wore a lace appliqué dress, rose flower crown and a ring that once belonged to her great-great-grandmother. Daniel sported a burgundy suit, velvet tie and socks with fishing lures on them. Katharine’s rustic clutch included quicksand roses, pincushions, scabiosa, mums, dahlias and ferns. he groomsmen channeled Johnny Cash with all-black suits, while the bridesmaids paired their jewel-tone dresses with a mix of coats.
A graphic designer by day, Katharine took the lead on designing on the pair’s bold stationery suite and the floral icons used throughout the day. Laser-etched seating assignments (on diamond-shaped mirrors) hung from chain mail and lent a touch of sparkle. Disco balls and patterned wallpaper (a nod to their invites) welcomed loved ones to the reception.
Blush silk runners, brass candlesticks and disco balls decorated tables, where guests dined on heirloom tomato salad and beef tenderloin medallions with cognac cream. Mickey and Minnie Mouse figurines topped the buttercream-frosted yellow cake with strawberry filling.
