Though Lacy and Chris grew up in the same 2,000-person town, they didn’t get to know each other until a decade later in St. Louis when they joined the same kickball team. After a move to Indianapolis—and not one, but two proposals—the pair started planning their wedding, which Lacy credits Chris with spearheading. The $5 rust tie with soft pink polka dots that he bought for the occasion even inspired the day’s funky and fresh color palette. Lacy filled tables with secondhand finds like animal figurines, decanters and bells that she collected without a clear vision of how she’d eventually put them to use. Figurines were perched near groupings of dahlias, celosia, mums, basil, cypress and sweet Annie. “The overall feeling of the wedding was fun, unique and whimsical,” Lacy says. Guests took a piece of that magic home when the night wrapped: Lacy left a basket of colorful kerchiefs for the taking. Lacy hand-stitched the rhinestone embellishment on the waistband of her bridesmaids’ tulle skirts, which were then paired with pink and leopard accents. “We don’t do slow and sappy,” Lacy says. The pair picked “Call On Me” by Big Brother & The Holding Company, sung by Janis Joplin.  Extra cocoa is to thank for the chocolate buttercream’s dark, rich color on Lacy and Chris’s classic yellow cake, Lacy says, which was topped off with vintage salt and pepper shakers. Guests also sampled a salted caramel sheet cake.
