Vibrant Flowers Filled Ever Corner of This At-Home Wedding in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Amanda Orr (28 and an interior designer) and James Bell (29 and a technician) always knew they’d say “I do” at Amanda’s parents’ home. From James’ proposal to family parties, “It’s been the backdrop of our lives,” Amanda says. To make another memory at the special spot, the couple filled the converted barn space with a meaningful mix of items. Amanda’s book collection lined the shelves, family photos hung on the walls and the reception boasted illustrated escort cards by Amanda and pottery that a friend made just for the occasion. “James can take complete credit for how beautiful the lawn and landscaping looked on our day,” Amanda says.  Amanda and James both made sure to add their own bit of flair to their wedding day looks—she had lace pieces stitched across the back of her dress, while he paired his bright blue suit with custom boots and a plaid tie. Amanda’s gals each selected a gown that suited their style for their pal’s big day. “I wanted my bridesmaids to feel comfortable and beautiful,” Amanda says. An eclectic assortment of dahlias, dried yarrow, lavender, astilbe, thistle, wild grasses and greenery stood at the center of each reception table. As for dessert, the duo dressed up their two-tier buttercream, lemon and plum cake with graphic pressed flowers.
