Vibrant, Eclectic Outdoor Wedding in A Private Sarasota Estate
As an illustrator, Shannon Couch (34) lives her life in vibrant color—and her wedding to Hunter Gettinger (34 and an electrician)was no exception. After Hunter proposed with a black diamond, Shannon used her expertise to bring her vibrant vision of a hometown wedding to life. “My color palette was pink, red, burgundy and a touch of rainbow,” she says. Case in point: her wedding party’s array of looks, all designed by one of the bridesmaids and ranging from fuchsia to red. Hunter also embraced the color play, matching his boutonniere to the stationery Shannon designed.
Calligraphed packets of flower seeds did double-duty as place cards and favors. Shannon and her bridesmaids all topped their looks with flowers in their hair, including bright anemones, hibiscus and mimosa. In keeping with the floral theme, Shannon designed the table numbers with colorful illustrations of the flowers used throughout the day, like the dahlias and peonies in the nearby centerpieces.
Shannon created the individual cards by hand- painting red envelopes with white lettering, while Hunter got creative and crafted the board for the display. The couple took inspiration for the day’s design after their own personal interior decorating style. “Our taste is boho and eclectic,” Shannon says. “You can see that in the patterned rugs and the rattan chairs.” Shannon carried a large mix of anemones, peonies, eucalyptus and an extra-large poppy. The pair’s florist added a couple more unexpected touches: clippings from Shannon’s parents’ yard and a few kumquats. “I was obsessed with the bouquet from the moment I saw the rainbow of colors in it,” Shannon says.
Highly saturated mixes of dahlias, ranunculus, peonies and branches popped against the pure white of the tablecloths. Small cakes in carrot and lemon accompanied monogrammed sugar cookies and edible flowers. “We wanted an absolutely wild dessert bar,” Shannon says. Shannon showed o her skills with the paper goods, which she covered in custom illustrations, including a preppy monogram and hand-painted white calligraphy.
