Tropical Glam Florida Keys Wedding

Alexis (Lex) Jacobs (29 and a PhD student) and Jack (Trey) Krips III’s (31 and a corporate executive) wedding celebrated the natural beauty of Islamorada. “We wanted our event to blend in with the island, so we veered away from including bright colors or any plants that you may not find in the Florida Keys,” Lex says. A mix of clean lines, native palms and an understated color palette defined the day’s modern, minimal design. Trey’s dad officiated the bayside ceremony as guests, all dressed in island-ready white, watched from clear acrylic chairs that kept the focus on the view—and the couple.
Lex carried an oversized clutch of tropical leaves, including monstera and areca palm, as well as white anthurium. The couple’s black lab, Dixie, walked down the aisle with Trey and laid at his feet during the vows.
Oversized palm fronds filled tall glass vases, which added a pop of green to the long mirrored dining tables. “They reflected the light so beautifully,” Lex says. Glass plates, geometric wine glasses, white linens, gold flatware and Lucite menus added to the clean, modern tabletop aesthetic. “We’re avid fishers and spear fishers,” Lex says. “We went out a few days before the wedding and caught all the snapper we then served at dinner.” The menu also consisted of lobster that Trey had caught the previous season.
Fresh cracked coconuts awaited guests pre-ceremony.
Signature sips at the poolside cocktail hour included tropical picks like “Shark Sangria” and “Lo-Key Rum Punch,” as well as wine, beer and champagne. Modern acrylic signs (made by Lex and her friends) encouraged guests to take a fan to cool off throughout the celebration. Lex and her dad entered the ceremony on the Blue Mist, a 1917 wood cruiser parked at the front of the pier. “No one knew I was in there,” she says.
