"Trash the Dress" Themed Vow Renewal on Coronado Island in Coronado, California

Melba Yarbrough (31 and a social worker) and Brian Yarbrough (32 and a teacher) went on a blind double date with their mutual friends. Brian and their friends showed up to the restaurant where Melba was a hostess to pick her up for the date, and Brian helped her finish up her shift. Ever since that first night of meeting, they were inseparable. About a year into dating, the couple went to Disneyland for the day. Melba always loved going to the large amusement park, and imagined being proposed to while in line for her favorite ride called Thunder Mountain. Unfortunately, the ride was closed of all days so the proposal that Brian was planning to make (thanks to Melba’s not-so-subtle hints) didn’t end up happening. Weeks later, Brian asked Melba to go get something out of the refrigerator. As she looked inside, she saw a replica of Thunder Mountain with an engagement ring placed at the pond. Fast-forward ten years after their wedding, and the couple decided to have a vow renewal on Coronado Island in the city where they spent the first three years of their marriage. Their theme was “Trash the Dress,” which involved Melba and Brian jumping in the ocean to celebrate their commitment to each other. With no one attending the vow renewal besides the photographer and their three best friends, the couple was able to truly focus on their relationship and love for each other. For their “reception,” the couple went around Downtown San Diego and visited all of their favorite dive bars, ending their night at a piano bar where the pianist knew them well. “After 10 years, we are still best friends and have the best time together,” says Melba. “We are still falling in love and hopefully always will be.”
