This Woodsy Wedding at Itasca State Park in Waubun, Minnesota, Included a Canoe Ride
Autumn Wilson (27 and a wedding photographer) and Andrew Haywood (28 and a mailman) met at a bus stop while they were both on trips to Hawaii, and they’ve been traveling together ever since. After a countryside proposal in Andrew’s native England, the pair plotted their next adventure: a forest wedding. “My dream was to get married in the woods,” Autumn says. From there, the couple took wedding inspo from a few sources close to home. “As a wedding photographer, I’d picked up a few details along the way,” Autumn says. Her dad built the ceremony arch, which the couple draped in greenery. In honor of the surroundings, the same dark wood marked the signage as well as the hand-built guest chairs. “During the vows, we spoke to each other about the amazing journey we’ve been on during our travels as well as everything ahead of us,” Autumn says.
Autumn’s ladies wore different dresses, all in soft, neutral tones to match their beige bouquets of amaranthus, garden roses and eucalyptus. For the reception, the newlyweds kept things casual as guests grabbed beers and raised toasts. “It was very intimate, so everyone knew each other and chatted among themselves,” Autumn says. Echinacea, protea, ranunculus, amaranthus and mixes of different eucalyptus topped rustic farmhouse tables.
In true camp style, Autumn and Andrew offered guests the chance to make their own s’mores. The couple cut into a tres leches cake topped with a carving of their married name, Mr. and Mrs. Haywood. Autumn worked with her mom and dad to hand-make the farmhouse tables and chairs for dinner, where guests ate a chicken and mushroom dish along with cookies and cream cupcakes under the glow of string lights hanging from the trees.
