This Penthouse Wedding at State Room Offered Sweeping Views of Downtown Boston
For their wedding in Boston, Alex and Steven chose The State Room because of, "its beautiful views of the city, the fact that it had two floors which made it interesting, a gorgeous glass staircase that connected the two floors, and the fact the space was quite bare so we could make it what we wanted." With the venue for their wedding booked, the couple set about planning a day that was, "elegant and romantic, but I wanted to create an overall feeling/vibe as opposed to an obvious theme. One thing I knew I wanted was tons of flowers! Our colors were soft pinks, nudes and beiges accented with gold. I wanted the room to glow at sunset and over the course of the night so we added (battery-operated) candles to each table." Alex says.
To bring the couple's wedding vision to life they had, "flowers everywhere." "My centerpieces were created using roses, hydrangeas and lots of greenery. I wanted them to be interesting and feminine without being “girly” so we stayed away from using too much pink and used light nudes and beiges instead. The bridesmaids bouquets included roses, hydrangeas and lilies, and the boutonnieres were lilies as well," Alex shares.
In addition to making sure flowers were an integral part of the day, it was important to the couple that their wedding represent a blending of their cultures. "We knew from the beginning that it would be crucial to get the music right. With so many guests, we had wide range of ages to cater to as well as cultures (I’m Cape Verdean, Steven is Puerto Rican). We had a band to start the night off with traditional Cape Verdean music and a DJ who capped the night off with pop and hip-hop music. There was something for everyone and everyone’s seat was empty for most of the night!"
