This Modern Loft Wedding in New York City Included a Bathtub Filled with Champagne

In college, where they met, John Kelly (30 and a product manager) and Pedro Gomez (31 and an advertising executive) planned many student events, so they had mood boards ready when they started designing their minimal, masculine wedding at Gary’s Loft in Midtown Manhattan. Stationery based on a geometric tile design that they saw on a trip to Mexico set the tone for the celebration. “We knew we wanted everything to feel clean and modern, but also warm,” Pedro says. The raw loft space provided a crisp backdrop for personal touches like framed family photos and bilingual Spanish-English vows, in honor of Pedro’s Peruvian and Dominican heritage. Lemon leaf, eucalyptus, blue thistle and wild grasses ran down dinner tables. “Serving dinner family style added a friendly atmosphere,” John said. “Guests naturally got talking.” The couple offered Dominican pork, tostones and Peruvian eight-herb chicken with ají verde. A dessert spread of lemon bundt cake, bourbon-pecan pies and black-and-white cookies rounded out the meal.
