This Couple's Greek Wedding at the Hilton in Chicago, Illinois, Was Inspired by the Roaring Twenties
Keeping 420 wedding guests full, engaged and entertained is no easy task, but it’s one Alexandra knew she and Jaysen were prepared for from the time they met. During a meal at a family friend’s restaurant, Chef Jaysen made sure Alexandra and her parents were enjoying their food. When she returned another time, he asked for her number. After a Vegas proposal and a 15-month engagement, they held a traditional Greek Orthodox church ceremony, followed by a fun, glamorous 1920s-inspired reception. They skipped long speeches (“Buzzkill,” Alexandra says) and extended the cocktail hour, sending guests home with personalized room keys and "insane" desserts. “Our cake was more of a showpiece,” the bride says. Nearly six feet tall, the Tahitian vanilla creation was covered in handmade sugar orchids. Alexandra and Jaysen cite the Roaring Twenties as a “huge inspiration” for their reception décor. They brought the gilded era to life with gold, even on the dance floor. For more vintage glam, they chose phalaenopsis orchids, which mimic the look of feathers when arranged. “We had Greek dancing during band breaks,” Alexandra says. “It was fun for everyone—Greek or not—everybody joined in!”
