After Kat Mullendore (26 and a floral farmer and designer) and Jake Willrett’s (26 and an organic farmer) engagement in Kat’s own field of blooms, the couple started planning their vows on Jake’s family farm “with a backdrop of corn planted by Jake himself,” Kat says. Kat’s mom, a seamstress, brought her vision of a terra-cotta gown with a concealed crest to life, while Jake handled building the bar. “It was a really family-centered day,” Kat says. “So many of our relatives contributed, from the flowers designed by my sister and me to the wine made by Jake’s dad.”
Guests found their seats with the help of a miniature “flower market,” made of buckets of blooms mostly grown on the family farm. The couple worked with their stationer to create a crest using some of the hallmarks of their lives together, including their dog and their fave blooms. Jake’s sister officiated the vows, which the pair said under an arch that Kat and her sister covered in roses, amaranth and apple branches.
Kat and Jake toasted with wine made by the groom’s father. Kat sipped cranberry wine, her favorite, while guests raised glasses of rhubarb-infused cabernet sauvignon and pinot grigio and snacked on popcorn from Kat’s favorite farmers market. Dahlias and garden roses tied together with hand-dyed silk topped tables. Peach-colored balloons framed the head table, which was covered in glowing candles, free-flowing greenery and farm-fresh apples at each place.
