This Couple Included a Traditional German Log Cutting Ceremony as Part of Their Wedding in Virginia

In honor of Althea's German heritage and Seyi's Nigerian background, the couple planned a multicultural wedding at The Estate at Independence in Midlothian, Virginia, to celebrate their marriage. To start the day, the couple exchanged vows at Sycamore Presbyterian Church. Following their wedding ceremony, the couple partook in the German tradition of sawing a log together outside the church. "The tradition of cutting a log at the wedding represents the very first obstacle that the couple will overcome in their marriage! The bride and groom have to work together as a team in order to saw through the log. Althea and Seyi used a decorative long saw with two handles as their friends and family cheered them on," shares their photographer. 

At the reception, Althea and Seyi changed into traditional Nigerian attire to celebrate Seyi's heritage. In addition to sharing dancing with their parents, the couple also enjoyed a traditional Nigerian money dance as part of the evening's festivities. "It is a Nigerian tradition to have a Nigerian money spraying dance. In the dance, guests are invited to spray small bills on the dancing couple to symbolize their hopes for the couple’s good fortune! I love how much fun the grandmothers had blessed the couple as they all danced together!" explains the couple's photographer.
