This Couple Had a Peach-and-Green Wedding at The Dalcy in Chicago, Illinois
Neena and David celebrated their union by fusing their diverse backgrounds together. “We wanted to plan most of the events ourselves to make sure they were the right blend of Western and Indian traditions,” Neena says. The pair kicked off the weekend with a mehndi party, followed by a Hindu ceremony and reception, and finishing with a Catholic mass and an after-party, with each celebration playing host to cultural traditions and personal details.
As a way to honor David’s religion, the couple said “I do” in the second-oldest Catholic church in Chicago. For the Saturday Western celebration, Neena carried a bouquet of soft pink roses, dahlias and vibrant greenery. The pair danced to NSYNC’s cover of the Alabama hit “(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time on You,” combining Neena’s childhood love of pop with David’s love of country.
The pair served up two signature drinks dubbed the Madras Mule and the Iowa Two-Step. “We wanted to pay homage to our fusion of cultures,” they say. The pair incorporated many culturally significant looks into their weekend, with David rocking a green kurta, beige vest and brown dress slippers and Neena dressed in a pink silk sari with gold jewels for their Hindu ceremony.
